Abstract
A numerical technique has been developed for computing the behavior of atomized non-evaporating liquid sprays injected into a gaseous environment. The same technique, however, is applicable to general incompressible flows containing particles or droplets. The method consists of a fully-interacting combination of Eulerian fluid and Lagrangian particle calculations. The interaction calculations are performed simultaneously and noniteratively. A Lagrangian description of the particles avoids numerical diffusion, and allows individual attributes, such as particle size, composition, etc., to be statistically assigned for each particle. Numerical calculations and comparisons with experimental data are given for some sprays typical of diesel engine fuel injection. © 1980.
