Abstract

The global warming has become a veryimportant issue this last decade. More efficient andreliable energy conversion methods are constantlybeing sought for renewable energy applications. Also, during the last few decades, increased concern over theenvironmental impact of the petroleum-basedtransportation infrastructure, along with the peak oil,has led to renewed interest in an electric A solution for these problems are windpower generators and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs ).This paper presents a study of a novel machine type:the permanent magnet induction machine. Thismachine has the necessary characteristics to be utilizedboth as a generator for a wind power turbine, as wellas an electric motor drive for a HEV propulsionsystem. The working principle and the mainadvantages of the machine are presented as well.
