Abstract

In the first section we discuss the important role that the schema construct has played in cognitive models of PTSD that attempt to account for findings relating to the role of cognitive factors in the pathogenesis and treatment of PTSD. Then we present studies of schema-related processing in PTSD followed by a description of schema-focused cognitive approaches to the treatment of PTSD. The chapter concludes with a discussion of future directions for schema-focused theories and therapeutic approaches to PTSD.
