Discipline summary

Electrical and electronics engineering is an engineering science that applies electricity and electromagnetism in a creative and practical manner. Outside of the United States, electrical engineering is considered to be focused on large-scale systems such as power and electronics engineering to be focused on small-scale systems such as computers. An alternative distinction refers to electrical engineering as the study and application of electricity to transmit energy and electronics engineering as the study and application of electricity to process systems. In the United States, there is no such distinction, and the distinction is becoming less definitive in other parts of the world as well, as the growing field of power electronics incorporates elements of both.
