Abstract
Accurate frequency estimation of a complex sinusoid corrupted by additive white gaussian noise is discussed. At a high signal to noise ratio (SNR) the additive noise transforms into an equivalent noise in the phase information. The estimator based on this phase information is computationally simpler than the maximum likelihood estimator and also attains the Cramer-Rao bound.
