Coherent detection for optical communications using digital signal processing

Abstract

Coherent detection offers a viable alternative to direct detection following the arrival of real-time digital signal processing technology. Experimental results show how coherent detection gives better performance. Some challenges of the digital approach are addressed. © 2007 Optical Society of America.
