Abstract
Reviews the book, The complete guide to Asperger's Syndrome by Tony Attwood (2006). This book is a comprehensive handbook on the subject which is both informative and practical. It is an easily accessible book, both to professionals as well as to the parents and carers of people with Asperger's Syndrome (AS). Each chapter is prefaced by a quotation from Hans Asperger and completed by a quote from a person with Asperger's Syndrome, ensuring that the story remains grounded in real life. A wide range of issues relating to AS are covered in the book including definition, assessment and diagnosis, the concept of the theory of mind as applied to AS, understanding and expression of emotions, and a host of other patterns of behavior characteristic of AS. A further strength of the book is its liberal use of quotations of personal experiences of people with Asperger Syndrome ensuring that the reader makes sense of Asperger Syndrome from their rich perspective. This book can be recommend to EPs for their own use in planning interventions, but also to share directly with parents and teachers and older people with AS.
