Crowdsourcing: The next wave?

Abstract

The article offers information on crowdsourcing. Accordingly, contributing editor of "Wired" magazine Jeff Howe states that crowdsourcing is an example of open source journalism while editor of Online Journalism Review Robert Miles defined crowdsourcing as the use of a large group of readers to report a news story. It discusses some of the examples of crowdsourcing which occurred in the U.S. such as a stellar example in the NewsPress and a prominent example in Assignment Zero, an experimental project of Jay Rosen in "Wired" magazine and NewAssignment.net. An overview on the history of crowdsourcing and its impact as a form of public journalism.
