Abstract

The selection of a data collection strategy is determined in part by whether scholars attempt to collect primary or secondary data. The use of secondary data presents sport management scholars with a lot of issues, such as how to locate, retrieve, and evaluate the quality of data. Thus, despite the promising future of using secondary data, the focus of our field is still on collecting primary data by using diverse data collection methods. Until recently, sport management scholars have used (a) qualitative data collection methods such as in-depth interviews and (b) survey methods. However, the concern with and the use of experimental research is recently growing because of its strengths, such as effectively securing internal validity. These factors are discussed in the current entry.
