Abstract

Sports data, an integral part of human culture, encompasses diverse forms and plays a pivotal role in understanding and enhancing sports activities. Sports data has been categorized into administration, operating, and match/performance data. Also, depending on the function of data, sports data is classified as on-field data and off-field data. The on-field sports data, focusing on performance, aids in game understanding and player improvement, including injury prevention. The off-field sports data, vital for sport business, influences marketing decisions, player salaries, and media engagement. The evolving landscape of big data, visualization, and interdisciplinary collaboration will amplify the significance of sports data in the future. One important fact is that researchers emphasize while sports data itself can't explain causality, its meanings and functions depend on the conducted research and analysis.
