Abstract

General approaches to the design of hierarchical systems are indicated which are particularly relevant to problems of optimal control of discrete systems. A decomposition technique for interacting linear dynamic systems is shown to lead to an optimum 2-level technique having equivalent performance. Comments on computational algorithms for realizing this technique are included. Copyright © 1966 The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
