Abstract

Abstract It is expected that future mobile devices might equip multiple wireless interfaces, and can access different wireless systems simultaneously. For some mobile Internet applications that require a high bandwidth, it is important to aggregate the bandwidths of multiple interfaces of a mobile device together to provide a virtual broadband wireless pipe. In this paper, we propose a dynamic bandwidth aggregation scheme for a mobile device with more than one wireless interface. The proposed system suggests an architecture and procedures to offer wireless bandwidth aggregation service. Also, a bandwidth aggregation scheduler that can adjust the number of packets transferred on each wireless link dynamically is designed and presented. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can aggregate wireless bandwidths efficiently and can accommodate the dynamics of the wireless link throughputs.
