Abstract
A sample of Encoded Archival Description (EAD) encoding guidelines is examined in order to identify the differences and similarities across multiple repositories in their approaches to EAD. The comparative analysis reveals some areas of consistency in encoding practices among the institutions represented, as well as some points of divergence. The implications of these patterns that emerge from the analysis are considered. © 2002, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
