Information Access

Abstract

This entry relates to information access - opening up information as a concept of knowledge shared or obtained. Information access requires making use of information content, whether in digital or manual systems. Open access and remote access demonstrate no-restriction conceptualizations for user information access. Information access is made possible through information access tools and systems components that retrieve, process, store, and distribute information for decision-making. Various models and theories of information access have been developed to enhance user retrieval efficiency. However, information access faces challenges in developing countries. Hence, library professionals must make efforts towards users’ positive information access.
