Abstract

The article focuses on the significance of open source software in libraries in the U.S. It defines the software as about taking more complete control over one's computer infrastructure. It is considered to be free just like in liberty. It is about community that is only possible in globally networked computer environment. It concerns on opportunity and flexibility which are relevant in a dynamic environment. However, it is not a panacea for libraries and does not require additional skills while it does not require programmers to support it.
