Abstract
The Java Enhanced Service Architecture (JESA) is a new middleware for building adaptive service networks. It minimizes manual administration in dynamic network contexts. JESA is optimized for resource limited devices like PDAs and sensors, hence it covers a broader range of device classes than other technologies like Jini and UPnP do. Its self-contained design enables spontaneous networking of limited devices without supporting infrastructure. JESA combines scalable service discovery with efficient remote service access. An abstraction layer unifies access to heterogeneous communication technologies and supports minimizing of network stacks, thus JESA enters new application areas. © 2004 IEEE.
