Abstract

Idiomatic expressions in Belgian French (BF) are analyzed according to the descriptive model of lexicon-grammars proposed by M. Gross (1982). General characteristics of BF are outlined, & frequency & usage of idiomatic expressions are discussed. Problematic issues raised by the classification of BF idiomatic expressions are addressed. Results show that BF embraces all classes of Standard French, though some forms are used more productively in BF & appear to be less common in Standard French. 1 Appendix, 16 References.
