Abstract

The article presents the author's views on the impact of technology on the value delivered by libraries, competition, and library use. The Internet's and electronic books business' effects on competition for library services and library lending are discussed. Topics include the business models of Google Books service and Internet Archive's Open Library, cheap digitization and distribution channels, and the September 29, 2010 Ebook Summit sponsored by this journal.
