Abstract
Management refers to the process of directing people and administering resources in a manner that best meets the goals of an organization. Management styles can vary greatly across the vast landscape of sport due to the complexities found in the global industry. Factors such as the organizational type, services offered, and company mission are some of the elements that can influence management styles. This entry is designed to provide both a theoretical and practical understanding of management within the context of the sports industry. It also discusses the four primary functions of management that are present in sports organizations today. These functions include planning, organizing leading, and evaluating. The foundation of management theory stems from the development of the scientific management and human relations movements of the early twentieth century.
