Abstract

The Monte Carlo localization method is introduced as a novel approach to mobile robot position estimation. This method can deal with ambiguities and thus can globally localize a robot. By concentrating the computational resources (samples) on the relevant parts of the state space, the method can efficiently and accurately estimate the position of the robot.
