The Ongoing Web Revolution

Abstract

The article presents information on Web 2.0 and how it is creating a need for Library 2.0. The author discusses researcher Lee Rainie's six hallmarks of the Web 2.0 shift, which include the creation and sharing of online content by millions of Americans, use of user-created content, and the automatic association of the Internet with the computer. He discusses copyright, authority, and privacy in relation to library practices. With regard to integrating blogs and user participation, he discusses how libraries can demonstrate trust in both staff and users. He discusses foundational needs for social software, and he provides examples of how various libraries are implementing them. He includes website addresses for Web 2.0 resources and examples of libraries' applications.
