Abstract
Free parking lot searching is time consuming if no practical solution implemented. The most common approach today is by implementing sensor-based detectors which usually involve high cost to install. This paper discusses the method to detect occupancy in outdoor parking lot area using image processing technique. The standard web camera is used in order to reduce cost. The proposed methods include pre-processing the acquired video image, applying twin ROIs on each parking space to increase detection reliability and finally performing color detection process. The test results show that under RGB color space this method can achieve minimum of 83% success rate.
