Abstract
The ethnopharmacological use of Combretum species in Africa against diarrhoea and eye infections can be ascribed to the antibacterial activity of this plant, especially towards Gram-positive microorganisms. Three active compounds were isolated from twigs and leaves of the species (as part of an investigation of South African medicinal plants), and structures are proposed for two of them.
