Abstract

This brief study examines one of the classical criticisms of philosophy, namely, its "impracticality." three of the reasons for this charge are examined: unfortunate teaching of the field, failure to appreciate the philosophic task, and the ambiguity of the word "practical." the reply to these criticisms centers around the relationship and contribution of philosophy to liberal education and the values of the liberal mind.
