Abstract

In this paper, we propose application of Door Open and Closure Information (DOCI) in design of Bus Signal Priority Strategy (BSPS) on urban signalized intersections. Current BSPS methods are most likely on the basis of mere location information from vehicle detector or GPS (Global Positioning System) technologies. The uncertainness of bus dwell time on bus stops can not be taken into proper considerations. In this paper we prove that the application of DOCI can help solving the problem by giving more correct bus arriving time prediction. The proposed method is validated through a traffic simulation study, which shows that the bus delay can be more effectively reduced with lesser influence on other traffic modes.
