Abstract
In 1934 F.N.D. Kurie at Yale University obtained the first evidence for existence of radiocarbon (carbon-14, 14C). Over the next 20 years most of the details for measuring 14C and for its application to dating were worked out by W.F. Libby and co-workers. Libby received the 1960 Nobel Prize in chemistry for this research.
