Abstract

Short Message(also called SMS) is the product of modern mobile communication, which provides more convenience and options for communication. The unwanted advertisements sent with SMS significantly interferes the normal communication among costumers which should have been guaranteed by the mobile service providers. As a result, the SMS spam produces detrimental effects on the quality of the service provided by mobile operators. In this paper, pattern-matching algorithm, also called BM algorithm, was used to construct the real-time (RT) SMS spam filtering system. The details of the BM algorithm, the design principle as well as the work flow of the RT-SMS filtering system were described in this paper. At last, the testing example of the system and the results were demonstrated. © 2010 IEEE.
