Abstract

The author examines the difficulties insolving the generic problem of finding reliable, efficient, timely, andcost-contained solutions for automation problems in softwareengineering. He notes that it is desirable to have a high-leveldescription system that takes advantage of AI, SE, database-managementsystems, and graphics technologies for interactive and rapid developmentof functional prototypes. At the heart of such a system, there is anexecutable very-high-level design language which can be used ininteractive, incremental, and hierarchical specification of large-scalesystems
