A review is given of the self-organization of colloidal nanoparticles. Topics discussed include self-assembly and self-organization (the self-assembly process, surface modification of nanoparticles), and self-organization of nanoparticles into a superlattice (self-organization through capillary forces, template-assisted self-organization, electrostatic complexation of nanoparticles with charged Langmuir monolayer, chem. patterned substrates, optically directed self-organization, elec. or magnetic field-assisted self-organization, biol. assisted self-organization).
