Abstract

The standard backward-facing step flow problem is solved for steady state laminar case using stream function-vorticity method. The steady state results are obtained as the asymptotic solution of the transient formulation. The primary reattachment length is studied and the discrepancy in the v velocity is reported. A method for determining appropriate locations for comparison is proposed. The energy equation is solved and found to be in good agreement with benchmark results.
