Abstract
Gas-phase hydration data can be used, in principle, to obtain "real" single-ion enthalpies and free energies of solution in water. An examination of the systematics among such data leads to estimates of the "absolute" or "intrinsic" single-ion properties. These are in remarkably good agreement with those based on Randles' separation and with a recent estimate of the surface potential of water. © 1981 American Chemical Society.
