Some Reflections on Existence

Abstract

This essay discusses first some problems of existence as data for a theory of existence: (1) g e moore's brilliant observation that "tigers exist" is the same proposition as "some tigers exist"' (2) the "meaninglessness" of existence denials; (3) kant's brilliant observation that existence is external to objects; (4) the unity of planned action and its realization; (5) the russell-meining debate on existence. then the outline of a theory of existence as external predication is offered. this requires an analysis of ordinary individuals into system of basic individuals. the theory is the one proposed originally in "thinking and the structure of the world," "philosophia", volume 4 (1974).
