Abstract

The structure and properties of ferritic, martensitic, austenitic and duplex-stainless steels are presented. Especially the cold forming and welding properties are reported. As for the development of materials, the focus is placed upon the resistance to nitric acid, by reduction of impurities in steel as well as to machinability improvements. High nitrogen steels have good strength and excellent corrosion resistance.
