Abstract

With the enactment of related standards and the promotion of industry, semantic web service is becoming a mainstream software form. Due to network dynamics and volatility of user's requirement, how to capture the changes in user's requirement and adapt the semantic web service accordingly has always been a hard issue. The rational use of contextual information, which is a source of implicit requirements, will contribute to a rapid and intelligent web service evolution process. A context driven approach for semantic web service evolution is proposed in this paper. In this approach, a context-domain-web service ontology network is constructed and managed under the guidance of ISO/IEC 19763-3 Metamodel for Ontology Registration. Contextual inference rules, which are extracted from ontology network, express the relationship between context and web service. With these facilities, decisions in evolving a web service resort to the computational tasks in ISO/IEC 19763-3 based ontology evolution theory. © 2008 IEEE.
