Abstract

Object oriented databases (OODB) have been portrayed as being the solution for complex applications such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS). One problem found with current GIS is that they concentrate on spatial data, rather than aspatial, ideally both should be able to be accessed within the one system. This paper discusses the development of a GIS that integrates both environments, which uses an object-oriented database and persistent programming technology.
