Abstract
A number of efforts have been made over the years to implement laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for analytical data at Eastman Kodak Company. These efforts have ranged from paper trails and spreadsheets to vendor supplied software but in all cases the ability to provide corporale wide access to this data has been unfulfilled. We have recently used World Wide Web technology to implement a web-based information management system, WIMS, which is a full-featured sample manager allowing desktop access to sample information, structures and spectra, as well as to a structure database for accessing historical reference data. This paper will give an overview of WIMS from design goals to inception, as well as a discussion of future directions.
