Working at the words/music interface: Models of collaboration

Abstract

This article sets out a collaborative model for teaching, performance and research in words/music relations based at Bangor University. The authors comment on a recent study day they held at the Oxford Lieder Festival with the pianist Sholto Kynoch, explain how his residency at the university has enabled collaborative teaching and research, and highlight the benefits of the collaboration for staff and students working in modern languages and music at Bangor. They describe their interdisciplinary undergraduate module 'Words and Music', comment on their teaching methodologies, and highlight the need for an international forum to share best practice in words and music research and teaching. © 2010 Taylor & Francis.
