Abstract

The combustion characteristics of SGT-100 combustor in three different mixing uniformities are studied by Large Eddy Simulation (LES) coupled Flamelet Generated Manifold (FGM) model in this paper. The results show that the mean of velocity is not sensitive to the mixing uniformity, and the velocity pulsation of uniform premixed (UP) case is strong. The precessing vortex core (PVC) structure is shown by the −100 pa iso-surface, it is found that both the uniform premixed (UP) and partially premixed (PP) case have the double helix vortex core structure and the rotation frequency is about 210 Hz. The 610 Hz precession frequency in UP case is captured and no apparent PVC was observed in the worse premixed (WP) case. The fuel is enriched at the throat wall area of combustor in worse premixed (WP) case, causing the fuel diffuse into the corner recirculation zone (CRZ) and generate hot spots. The mixing uniformity significantly affects the combustion characteristics.
