Abstract

The third and fourth virial coefficients for two types of axially symmetrical hard molecules have been calculated using a Monte Carlo method, and the results compared with values obtained from the scaled particle theory and from calculations based on expansions in terms of spherical harmonics. The scaled particle theory is found to give very satisfactory results, and the extension to molecules with attractive intermolecular forces is briefly considered in relation to the extended principle of corresponding states.
