Abstract

This study aims to describe: (1) Mathematics learning initiatives during the pandemic for high school students; (2) the high school students' independence from other people in learning mathematics during the pandemic; (3) self-control in learning mathematics during a pandemic in high school students; and (4) Confidence in learning mathematics during the pandemic in high school students. The type of research used in this article is qualitative phenomenology. The research was conducted at Senior High School 22 Tangerang Regency with the subject of one mathematics teacher and five students. This research data collection technique using interview and documentation methods. The validity of the data in this qualitative study used source triangulation and method triangulation. The data analysis technique in this study used the flow method. The results of the study concluded that: 1) Students' learning initiatives in online mathematics learning were categorized as high by actively asking questions, expressing their opinions and learning regularly and independently; 2) The ability of students to understand the subject matter greatly affects the independence of others in learning; 3) The students' self-control is already good so that it must be developed, maintained, and improved so that the student's learning discipline improves; 4) Self-confidence in learning provides an understanding that a person's positive thoughts and behavior on his ability can increase learning independence.
