Abstract

While medical treatment remains the first line of treatment for epilepsy, surgery provides effective long-term control in suitable patients. Detailed investigations are necessary to prove suitability and in order to choose the appropriate procedure. This article gives an outline of the investigative programme and the various operative approaches. Novel methods and those under investigation are also discussed. © 2001 BEA Trading Ltd.
