Abstract
This article presents the development of the research work done under the modality umbrella project from Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios. It was determined the influence of transversality between visual arts and language to get improvement of the processes of reading, writing and orality. It was applied to the students of first, second, third, fourth and fifth grade from the rural school El Tesoro de la Tempestuosa, which belongs to Institución Educativa Miradores de Llana Caliente, located in the town of San Vicente de Chucuri, Santander- Colombia. The general objective was to analyze the contribution of visual arts as a didactic strategy in the processes of reading, writing and orality on the school ambit in our country, Colombia, so that it was possible to know if there was any positive impact that would promote reading and writing habits and oral expression after the intervention of this project. On the same way, specific objectives were proposed in order to characterize the language processes and the effectiveness on the implementation of visual arts as a didactic strategy allowing to focus the attention on knowing the motivation and creativity at the moment of doing the artistic activities planned. The research developed was based on the combination of qualitative and quantitative approach, which were framed as a mixed approach. Its implementation was developed on four phases: exploratory, field work, analytic and informative. Its aim was to determine the impact of the visual arts in the processes of reading, writing and orality through the making of a Pop-Up book by the learners in which the participants wrote individually their story and finally designed their Pop-Up book. The implementation of visual arts as a didactic strategy through the Pop-Up technique showed to be a useful tool to improve the five competencies of the language area now that it was evidenced a high motivation from the students in the production of short texts in relation to their setting and making use of their imagination. On the same way, they were motivated to read their stories in front of the class and put into practice an artistic technique on their own production, developing and consolidating the competencies directly connected with reading, writing and orality.
