Abstract

Classification ability and pattern-sorting ability are very crucial to be developed in the early childhood. The learning media used need to be taken as a factor in learning of how to develop these classification ability and pattern-sorting ability. This research was intended to determine the effect of natural object as media on classification ability and pattern-sorting ability on the 4-5 year old children. This research is a quasi-experimental research. The samples of this research involved 40 children whose age ranged from 4-5 years old in Rahmatullah Kindergarten, Banyuwangi Regency. The data collection technique used in this research was observation and the data collection instrument was observation guideline. Data analysis techniques used the t test with a significance level of 5% to determine the effect of the use of natural objects media on the ability to classify and sort patterns. The results obtained from hypothesis verification on classification ability and pattern-sorting ability showed that the sig value of paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test was 0,000 <0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that there was an effect of media on natural objects regarding: classification ability and pattern-sorting ability on the 4-5 year old children.
