Abstract

The concept of typology was originally stated by Quatremère de Quincy and implicitly developed by Durand, but its validity would be challenged at the onset of modernity. An interested and reductionist reading of the concept of typology and its appropriation by the historicist postmodernism trend eventually ended up in its discredit. Modern architecture may also respond to a typological analysis, especially if topological aspects are considered. Recently, architects such as Eisenman or FOA have classified their projects according to genealogies sharing topological affinities, demonstrating the validity of the typological approach.
