The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to disease mapping and to provide the reader with the skills to construct and to interpret maps showing the distribution of disease. The book also aims to describe the role of disease mapping within epidemiology and to highlight its important role in studies of environmental health and environmental epidemiology. The book is divided into 7 main sections, titled: introduction; visual perception and map construction; data types and sources; basic methods; study design; advanced methods; public health surveillance and mapping. The book has an appendix listing software for disease mapping, a glossary and an index.
