¿Le importa el sexo a la democracia participativa?

Abstract

The theory of participatory democracy and no essentialist feminist approach on the forms of democratization, have been developed in parallel despite sharing an agreement to work towards the updating of the social contract. This divorce begins with the interpretation of crisis in democracy and in the formulation of the notion of participation. The result is that both theoretical bodies, shed parallel views about the elements that structure women participation. This article explores, through the analysis of two experiences of participatory democracy in which feminist approach has been incorporated unequally (participatory budgeting in Porto Alegre and 15 M movement), the relationship between the parallel development of the two theoretical bodies and the elements that restrict the participation of women in participatory democracy practice.
