Abstract
Ornamental plants are quite popular in Indonesia. However, it needs special treatment. The key is how to make normal environmental conditions. Indicators that can be used to determine the normal condition is temperature and humidity of the air, light and soil moisture. Conventionally the value of the indicator can be obtained through soil sampling and measure the temperature and humidity of the air around the pot using a particular tool. it is very ineffective if implemented. Therefore, we need a system that can provide environmental information on potted plants in real-time. Internet of Things is a solution offered for monitoring potted plants in pots via the internet using smartphones in real-time. The ornamental plant pots are embedded with Arduino microcontroller that has been installed wifi module and connected with soil moisture, air temperature and humidity and light sensor. The value obtained from the sensor is sent to cloud storage via a microcontroller, then displayed in realtime in the SmartPot app using the Android-based smartphone. If the soil moisture is below the threshold (dry) system will provide notification in the smart phone and update the status on twitter. System testing has been done and all functions are running 100% as expected.
