Abstract

The conviction of Richard Huckle in London for 71 sexual offences that involved Malaysian child victims had caused uproar within the nation. 20,000 of indecent images of children, including those of which showed him committing child rape, were discovered on his computer during his arrest at Gatwick Airport in 2014. In response to this horrific event, a special task force was formed to review and propose stronger laws to protect children from sex predators. As a result, the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017 (Act 792) was passed.
