Sovereignty without independence: Aspects of political and legal discourse in the proclamation of the United Kingdom

Abstract

Analysis of aspects of political and legal discourse in the process of the creation of the United Kingdom, considering the moment of transition from the Ancien Régime to the constitutional era, including the conceptual vagueness of the vocabulary used. The article emphasizes questions like Brazil's transition from state to ingdom, the new organization of the political corpus and civil society, the rule of law, the nationality and the civil and political rights of the citizens, "Portuguese of both hemispheres" and the fear shown in the face of moral revolution and popular revolution.
