Abstract
The government of Australia adopted governance as a priority area for its aid program in 1997. Activities are focused in four strategic areas that are interrelated: economic and financial management; public sector management; law and justice and civil society. This paper provides a brief description of the conceptual basis underpinning these areas, together with a practical project example for each. The paper concludes with some comments on Australia's approach and experiences in promoting good governance with partner governments and agencies.
